The New England Patriots were awarded two compensatory draft picks in the third and seventh rounds of the 2015 NFL Draft on Monday during the NFL Annual Meeting.
The third-round pick (#97) was given for the loss of Aqib Talib to the Denver Broncos in free agency in 2014. The Patriots also received a seventh-round pick (#253), for losing Dane Fletcher to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
With five picks in the first 101 selections, the team is in excellent shape to build some depth that is sorely needed. The Patriots now own picks in Rd 1 #32, Rd 2 #64, Rd 3 #96, #97 and Rd 4 #101.
They currently have no picks in the 5th round but own a single pick in the sixth-round and two in the seventh and final round.
Just for the trivia lovers out there, QB Tom Brady was selected with a compensatory pick #199 in the sixth-round of the 2000 NFL Draft. Bill Belichick who actually sat for the Coaches Photo this season at the league's meeting, will have plenty of fodder to wheel and deal and build up the depth of the 2015 version of the Pats.
