The New England Patriots entered a “big week” on Monday according to Head Coach Bill Belichick. With three games in the space of ten days, it certainly is, not only for young players but for veterans looking to carve out a roster spot as well.
Normally, the third game of training camp is what is considered the dress rehearsal for the season. The final tune-up is mainly for fringe players trying to make the roster. But on Monday night in Foxboro, I think you may see something more akin to the Patriots dress rehearsal for the season. With two games coming quickly on the heels of the Eagles game, the Pats may be playing a number of back-ups in those last two games to try to finalize the roster.
The Philadelphia Eagles are in a similar position and Head Coach Andy Reid has all but said that this Monday will be the Eagles game to see what the starters have for the regular season. Reid told Philly beat writers that the starters should play at least a half on Monday.
Both teams have had their issues with the offensive line and both seem deep at the defensive line position, so those two areas will be fun to watch. We’ll have more on PatsFans.com later on what to watch for in the game but this one may be closer to a regular season game for both team’s starters.
